Steven Smith has entered an elite group, being the 15th player to surpass 10,000 runs in men’s Test cricket.

After missing the opportunity to achieve the milestone in his hometown of Sydney during the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, Smith attained the five-figure landmark in Australia’s inaugural Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, executing his characteristic flick toward mid-on, initiating a single before raising his bat to acknowledge the applause.

The occasion was characterized by applause from the Australian group.

Smith advanced the score to 137/2 with the run, sustaining Australia’s robust beginning following the tourists’ decision to bat after winning the toss.

The 35-year-old has achieved a batting average over 55, with Kumar Sangakkara being the sole batsman surpassing 10,000 runs with a superior average of 57.40.He became the eighth fastest batsman to reach 10,000 Test runs in terms of innings played.


The batter becomes the fourth Australian, alongside Allan Border, Steve Waugh, and Ricky Ponting, to achieve this milestone.
